Car Features Top 10 Most Viewed New Car Profiles

Since adding new cars to the mix last July, we had tracked them in which more views meant their popularity and people searching them had interest. Half of them were sub-compacts, three mid-size SUVs (one is an anticipated vehicle, which we posted a day before its launch), and two MPVs. Unlike the most searched vehicles released by Google Philippines, the results are different from us (maybe we started late though).

Other cars like the Honda Brio and Brio Amaze, Toyota Vios (which, surprisingly, didnt make the list), and Mitsubishi Lancer EX were follow ups.

So we shall give to you the most viewed vehicle profiles

Used Car Review Chevrolet Spin 2013 2016

This recently discontinued model gets the spotlight this week.

2013-2016 Chevrolet Spin

History

Chevrolets current line-up had changed throughout its existence in the Philippines, from the time where gas guzzling vehicles became showroom stalwarts until Asian bred (from Korea and China) models were infused in the mid-00s. Things had changed when General Motors got bankrupt and a new distributor in the picture, improved models ushered in aiming to compete in certain categories and this includes the vehicle that we will be talking.

Developed as a global car in Brazil for worldwide consumption, the Spin replaced multiple but similar vehicles in several markets. Assembly points are located in Brazil and Indonesia, with the latter involving the re-opening of its plant in 2013 but only to close two years later due to poor sales. Engines vary per market requirements, which means South American models dont have the diesel while the ASEAN ma rket gets lower displacement gasoline models.

Introduced to compete with the likes of the Toyota Avanza - as well as the later launched Suzuki Ertiga and Honda Mobilio - the Chevrolet Spin was unique in its class, since it offered a diesel engine which rivals do not get. While it sold well (but not to Japanese competition levels), it was a casualty of the closure of the plant, along with the Sonic sub-compact.

Value and Costs
Similar to rivals, second hand Spin units can be had between P460,000 to P600,000 which includes the unique to the segment diesel. Chevrolet has a five year warranty, so even the oldest model can have the remaining chunk which is an advantage.

Keeping this vehicle can be similar to the competition, since most carry the same displacement but slightly higher than Toyotas. Common niggles for this vehicle include the fan belt which is easy to break and the battery unit.

Exterior and Interior
Modern looking than most rivals although its proportions may look awkward (unlike the Mobilios wagon like profile). LTZ models get alloy wheels and roof rails while the LT utilizes hubcaps.

One of the strengths of this vehicle is an airy cabin, which is abundant on headroom but adequate for the average Filipino rider. LT models lose the airbags, power mirrors, and a fancy audio system which the LTZ gets. Interior quality is excellent than most rivals except for the Ertiga.

Engine
Two engines of different fuel types are available in this vehicle which includes the following: the gasoline unit is the S-TEC 1.5 with 107 hp at 6,000rpm and 141Nm at 4,000rpm paired to an automatic while the diesel is the SDE 1.3 which has 74hp at 4,000rpm and 190Nm at 1,750-2,500rpm that can only be had with a manual. While the gas is decent enough, the diesel is the cream of the crop which provides more punch in the highway along with excellent fuel consumption.

Driving Impressions
Unlike some ancient rivals, this one drives similar to a sedan abeit with some heavy steering with road noise being evident on low speeds but strangely quiet on the highway. Other positives include an easy to maneuver nature, good all around visibility, and stable on high speeds.

Verdict
One vehicles that should have given more attention, the Spin has virtues that rivals lack. If a diesel Spin with complete set of amenities which is priced fair could have shaken the competition.

The Good:
  • Available diesel engine
  • Roomy cabin
  • Interior quality
The Bad:
  • Tight third row
  • Single transmission option per fuel type
  • May prove to be hard to maintain
The Pick: LTZ

Renault Group moves to Top 3

Renault and Dacia has achieved a combined share of 9.7pc in the car and LCV market for the first half of 2017, taking the Renault Group to third position in the market, writes Trish Whelan.

The new Megane range sold 1,595 models since January bringing it into the top 10 and sales of the new design Renault Scenic (pictured above) and Grand Scenic have secured Renault the Number One position in the medium MPV segment.

Renault Captur
The Captur maintained its lead as Ireland’s favourite compact SUV in the first half of the year.

Renault is the number two best-selling brand for LCVs for the month of June, and year-to-date achieved an increased market share of 12.8pc. Trafic, the best-selling medium van in Ireland, is also the overall best-selling van in Dublin.

It has been a busy six months for Renault in Ireland with the launch of the New Megane Grand Coupe and Megane Sport Tourer, the new Scenic and Grand Scenic in January and the launch of the new ZOE ZE 40 in May, which has the longest range of any mainstream electric vehicle.

Arriving into dealerships nationwide this month is the New Renault KOLEOS SUV, (pictured above) the D-segment SUV, topping Renault’s crossover range alongside Captur and Kadjar and with a choice of two diesel engines mated to either X-Tronic automatic transmission, or a manual gearbox, and four-wheel drive.

Renault Bank has lent €124 million to individual customers year-to-date (€102 million for Renault and €22 million for Dacia) with business customers borrowing €15.4 million. PCP remains the most popular choice with new car customers, with 64pc opting for this versus 36pc taking HP.

Anyone buying a new Dacia model can avail of 4.9pc APR with zero deposit through Dacia Bank on all new cars ordered and registered by 31 July.

LCV customers for Master, Trafic or Kangoo, can avail of 3pc APR HP Finance, 3 years’ servicing included and 3pc cash back for 172.

Patrick Magee, Country Operations Manager, Renault Group said “The availa bility of finance through our own bank and our 28 Renault Group dealers who offer a range of services that customers don’t get elsewhere, played a key part in our success.

Used Car Review Lexus ES350 2009 2012

Camry na Lexus? O Lexus na Camry? A lot of people, including Myk Belmonte are confused about the magic of this vehicle.

2009-2012 Lexus ES350

History
Lets go back in the year 1989 when the Lexus brand was launched. The first vehicle to be launched was the LS400 that targeted the top sedans sold by Mercedes and BMW. Alongside the LS, the ES250 made its public debut in the North American International Auto Show during that year. If the LS is an all original model, the ES is based from the Toyota Camry.

After four generations, the XV40 ES350 was available for purchase in February 2006. This vehicle saw the usage of a six-speed automatic and does not have any resemblance with its Japanese cousins (the previously related Toyota Windom was discontinued). Kengo Matsumoto was responsible for the design that happened in 2002 and 2004 with design patents being filed on December 27, 2005. One fact: despite that this vehicle is bu ilt in Japan, it is not available in its home country nor at any right hand drive markets. It received a minor model change in 2009 and ended production in 2012, with the Toyota Avalon based ES being launched.

Together with four other models, the Lexus ES350 reached Philippine shores in January 2009. At the same time with the Camry, this one received a facelift in August of the same year. Lexus Manila ceased sales of the XV40 in July 2012 with the release of the sixth generation model.

Value and Costs
You have P2.5M in your hands and want more than the top of the line Camry that your high school classmate owns? Then you dont need to scrimp on your lunch or the need to take economy class during your business trips, you can now buy a pre-owned ES350 for just between P1,700,000-P2,500,000. And while youre at it, why not proceed to Lexus Manila and scour for a certified pre-owned unit for some assurance.

Maintenance costs can be identi cal to a Camry 3.5V but somewhat higher due to the added gadgets and other electronic goodies. But dont fret, even with a used Lexus, you get the same dealer treatment since Lexus dealers are rated above in dealer satisfaction surveys anywhere in the world.

Exterior and Interior
With a sleek design, driving one is a statement. It may not attract stares than a BMW or a Benz, but its a symbol of understated luxury, as what Dinzo Tabamo wrote on his article in the December 2009 issue of Top Gear Philippines. There is nothing much to say about the outside.

A strength of Lexuses are the impeccable interior quality. Leather and wood comfort the occupants, with the key proximity sensor taking care of your security and the preferred seating adjustment can cool the cabin. Standard inside is the Lexus Premium Sound System that prefers classic rock than the latest singles released by Lady Gaga and Black Eyed Peas. Why do I say so? Playing the latest R&B and pop tunes can make the sound system "basag pakingan" but if youre planning to play classical songs, the interior can turn into a music museum since they blend in. Before your passengers ride in the comfortable and cozy cabin (its very roomy inside), make sure they choose the driving music wisely not to spoil the experience.

Engine
No need for a lengthy description since the sole engine choice is a 2GR-FE 3,456cc which carries 272hp at 6,000rpm and 344Nm at 4,700rpm. It may not offer sports car-like speed but it is one great companion for a smooth ride.  This description also goes with the Camrys V6 engine

Driving Impressions
Well composed and comfortable, your passengers can almost sleep inside the ES350s interior. There are tons of leather to keep them relaxed. The driver can push the accelerator more but dont expect any great handling, it wants to be in a straight line. This is the matured v ersion of the Camry.

Verdict
Owning a Lexus is one hell of an experience, which you cannot get with a top of the line Camry. Sure, you can almost save a million bucks for getting a Toyota, but the Lexus? Priceless. Thanks to depreciation, the Pursuit of Perfection can be yours for less but the ownership experience is the same.

The Good:
  • Quality is unparalleled
  • Opulent interior
  • Great dealership experience even if you have a second hand unit
The Bad:
  • Badge engineering at its finest
  • Camry for a million bucks more
  • Not the drivers car
The Pick: Any well maintained unit will do

Rally Champions for Deja Vu Killarney 2017

Following the success of Circuit Deja vu in 2016, Dr Beatty Crawford and Plum Tyndall are bringing their great rally reunion event back to Killarney this Easter, but with a twist as this time they are ‘Firing up the Group B Memories’, writes Trish Whelan.

“We will be celebrating the glory years like when the supercars swept into Ireland in the late eighties to take part in events like the Circuit of Ireland, the Ulster Internationally Rally, the Galway International Rally and the fabulous Kerry stages,” say the organisers.

“The superstars came with the supercars, Bloomquist, Mikkola, Mouton, Toivonen, Vatanen, Roh l, and our locals like Fisher, Cullen and MacHale got the chance to compete against the very best in the world on home soil.”

Group B gave birth to such exotic machines as the Audi Quattro S1 and S2 Sport Quattro S1. Ford’s RS200, and the Ferrari 308. Lancia were major players with their Rally 037 and Delta S4. Opel kept to two-wheel-drive but their Ascona 400 and Manta 400s got results. Nissan had their bulky 240RS, Renault their 5 Maxi Turbo, Porsche a derivative of the 911 and SC RS, and Peugeot developed their highly successful 205 T16. British Leyland were late with their Metro 6R4 which was still being developed when Group B was cancelled in 1986.

Now, the Deja vu organisers will seed the Group B entries and their replicas at the head of the parade on the Sunday Run where they will join the other exotic machines on the non-competitive tour of the great stages.

Pictu red above: TV personality, Pamela Ballantine, with Dr Beatty Crawford (left) and Alan (Plum) Tyndall during the press conference to announce that international rally champions will be in Killarney this Easter to participate in Deja vu Killarney, 2017. Pamela will MC the Gala Dinner on Easter Sunday night in Killarney.

These World, French, Middle East, British, and Irish rally champions will all be in Killarney as guests of Deja Vu Killarney when the event relives the golden Group B rallying era of the 1980s on April 15 and 16.

Vehicle Overview
Launched in 2009, the fifth generation Honda City got more sophisticated and more better by offering fresh VTEC engi nes and a larger cabin. The previous models i-DSI engine and rear folding bench was dropped for all models. A far cry from the hatchback models that were only previously available outside the Philippines during the 80s and even from the Civic EF based model during the 90s.

While the exterior dimensions increased a little, the story tells you it has a larger cabin and trunk space than before, explaining why the 60/40 fold rear seats were dropped. Similar to its rival, 1.5 models are easily distinguished by its side mirror signal repeaters than the 1.3 which dont get these.

Hondas VTEC technology is now used for both engines here, which gave the 1.3 and 1.5 more power and torque than before. The 1.3 is too smallish that you need to rev hard to attain decent acceleration, while the 1.5 can motivate the vehicle without any drama. Handling is something Honda typical and would bring you to your destination without any trouble. Unlike the previous model, the 1. 5 is strictly automatic.

As we said earlier that the interior had grew up in size, especially that passengers have unobstructed view outside. Another plus point is the high quality interior, which is a breath of fresh air in this category.

What Should I Get
In 2009, the City was originally available in three variants that includes the A, S, and E. Choosing the A (which was dropped in the 2012 update) gives you the 99hp 1.3 engine plus all power amenities, MP3 capability with CD, and ABS brakes. Going for the S adds alloy wheels, dual airbags, alarm, keyless entry, and auxilary and USB function. The E adds the 118hp 1.5 engine, chrome door handles, and side mirror signal repeaters. An ECO mode and steering wheel audio controls for January 2012 and up models. April 2013 saw the launch of two spin-off models of the E that included the EL that gets leather seats while the ENC gets stability control and 60/40 fold rear seats. Modulo body kits were an add ed option for 1.3 S and 1.5 E models beginning December 2012.

How Much Would It Cost Me
Maintaining one is in the range of its rivals and there is no CVT to worry about. Fuel consumption is average for the class although the 1.3 automatic tends to rob power due to the rev friendly engine. Problem spots of this vehicle include a weak alternator, the starter system which makes starting the engine difficult especially when the vehicle is shut down for a short time, and minor squeaks which can pop out. Different recalls were issued for the City which involved a spring that causes friction resulting to stalling or engine failure (for 1.5 models assembled between 2009 to April 2010, issued last February 2011) and suspected defect in the driver side airbags deflator (2009 to 2011 assembled models issued last September 2015 and 2012 to 2014 assembled models issued last March 2016).

After the sedan body, the convertible version of the E90 3 Series followed after the coupe nearly a year later. Two engines, both inline sixes, are available with the 335i being a twin turbo one. The 3 Series convertible became the 4 Series in 2014.

2015 Toyota Mirai Price and Performance

2015 Toyota Mirai Price and Performance

2015 Toyota Mirai Review
2015 Toyota Mirai Price and Performance
2015 Toyota Mirai Price and Performance- Toyota has uncovered more data on its up and coming hydrogen-fueled auto, which will be called Toyota Mirai. The model was already known as the FCV. The Toyota Mir ai is as of now accessible to request in Japan, and will touch base in Europe and the US in summer 2015. The outside styling was uncovered at the LA engine show, and the European-spec inside will be demonstrated at the Geneva engine demonstrate in March 2015.

2015 Toyota Mirai Design
2015 Toyota Mirai Price and Performance
The 2015 Toyota Mirai inside is fairly less great and in keeping with what you may anticipate from a hydrogen-fueled auto. The surface nature of the plastics appears to be higher than that which youll discover in the Prius and the expansive focal touchscreen feels right when youre situated in the auto, regardless of the fact that it looks odd in photos.
2015 Toyota Mirai Price and Performance
Under the strange skin,Toyota Mirai has a similarly irregular format. Its a really enormous auto (4.9m long and 1.82m wide) and is genuinely average in that it is front-wheel drive with MacPherson struts at the front and twofold wishbone suspension at the back

2015 Toyota Mirai Price and Performance

2015 Toyota Mirai Performance
2015 Toyota Mirai Price and Performance
As the electric auto, Toyota Mirai very little more to do than press the begin catch, push the short apparatus lever into push and murmur away. For a sharp driver that is the issue with large portions of the new type of electrically determined autos. So clear, they all have a same level character.
2015 Toyota Mirai Price and Performance
The Mirai equipped for 111mph, 0-62mph in 9.6secs and a scope of 300 miles on the 5kg of hydrogen put away in two tanks under its back seats. Refueling them takes around five minutes. In the motor narrows is the electric engine, mounted transversely, with the force control unit sitting on top of it. Toyotas new, minimal Fuel Cell Stack sits under the front seats and the power module promoter is joined to its forward end, adequately sitting between the front seats.

2015 Toyota Mirai Price
2015 Toyota Mirai Price and Performance
2015 Toyota Mirai has recommended that it will cost around €66,000 in addition to nearby charges in Europe. This will work out at a marked down cost of around £60,000 in the UK.
